about

On the 18th January 2017, we lost our beloved mother, sister, nana and friend, Francis Eaton. My mum, dad and I went to see family in Scarborough to be together and reminisce. During the time there, I learned that my 16-year-old cousin Brandon Smith had written a song to nanna. Being young, and with all our beady eyes, he was a bit shy to perform it, which is completely understandable. Anyway, when I returned home, I convinced him to share the lyrics with me, which he did. After reading the lyrics, I thought to myself, "This needs to be heard by the family." So, I contacted a friend of mine that is a singer-songwriter named Ryan Smith. I asked Ryan if he would be willing to help me make the song happen for our Nana's wake, and he said he would be honoured. He took the lyrics and structured them into the beautiful piece of music you hear now. He told me he left a part for me, so I had to write lyrics, ugh! But I did it and we brought Brandon's song to life. Amazing young man, with so much love for his family. The following are the final lyrics to the song. Please share your thoughts and let me know what you think? Thank you for your time.

lyrics

Intro

Verse
The past few days have had me feeling pretty rough
As if losing you wasn't hard enough
But I know you're at peace and we all send our love
Little nana looking down from above

Chorus
There are so many things, I'd like to say
So many warm stories and happy memories
You'd sing to me on my birthdays
So I sing you this song
I'll be with you soon and I'll
Try stay strong

Verse
On our way to say our last goodbyes
My heart overfilled and I try not to cry
My thoughts and my fears race as they became one
You hung on before you left towards the sun

Chorus

Bridge
And now that you're gone, your memory lives on
Inside of this song so when we feel low
We'll press play to say hi and never say goodbye
So keep our seats warm while we weather the storm
Watching over us from up above the sky
All around us in our hearts and in our minds
Been blinded for so long but now we see life's short
Eventually, all our boats leave port and travel towards the sun
Sons and daughters hurting with pain no one can ever take away
What can I say It's just life's story
Mourning your name, your face and your warm embrace
As you look down on us from Heaven's staircase
You can never be erased

Chorus X 2 (Ryan)
